Manual Osteopathic Therapy is a non-invasive manual therapy in which the therapist uses variety of techniques to improve overall health across all body systems by manipulating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework.
Manual Osteopathic Therapy can treat/relieve numerous conditions including but not limited to:
Is Manual Osteopathic Therapy the same as massage?
Manual Osteopathic Therapy is NOT THE SAME as Massage Therapy because Osteopathic treatment does not include massaging the client's body.
Manual Osteopathic Therapy believes in treating the patient as a whole, and the ultimate goals of treatment is to restore that proper balance and function, allowing your body to heal through its own natural processes. It works to balance your nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems, improving your range of motion and relieving pain or discomfort or other symptoms.
With proper assessment and treatment, osteopathy can help work with what is causing your pain, and is not limited to what symptoms you're feeling.
Osteopathy involves the use of methods called Craniosacral Therapy, Myofascial Remodelling, Visceral Manipulation and also Osteoarticulations. Your Manual Osteopathic Therapist will determine which treatments your body needs at each session, either combining them, or providing one over the others.
If you are a first-time client for Manual Osteopathic Therapy, please book the Initial Assessment & Treatment session.
Our Manual Osteopathic Therapist will conduct a detailed assessment which includes Range of Motion and Orthopedic Testing (assessment of musculoskeletal system). You may also expect to answer questions regarding your health history, lifestyle, and pain levels. From this assessment, our therapist will determine the problems or barriers within your body contributing to your complaint. Your overall treatment plan will address these issues – ultimately, restoring balance to the body.
After assessment, treatment may include movement, exercise, stretching, palpation of the body, organs, or tissues, low-velocity manipulations, etc. It is important to maintain a dialogue on your comfort levels so your therapist can make adjustments with the pressure and techniques being utilized.
What to wear in a Manual Osteopathic Therapy session?
It is best to wear a loose, comfortable clothing as treatment is hands on that usually involves moving various parts of your body. Please speak to our Manual Osteopathic Therapist if you feel uncomfortable in any way.
